Uvita
The Whale's Tail beach, whale watching, and rainforest-backed coastline.
About Uvita
Uvita is best known for Marino Ballena National Park and its famous Whale's Tail sandbar, but the bigger draw is the sense of space: wide coastline, jungle-covered hills, waterfalls inland, and migrating whales offshore in season.
When to go
The driest weather is usually January through April, while whale watching is strongest in seasonal migration windows that vary through the year.
Getting there
Roughly 3.5 to 4.5 hours south of San José by car along the Pacific coast, with easy access to both beach and inland waterfalls.
