Twilight Wildlife Tour

The changeover hour, when day and night animals overlap

About 1.5 hours Max 12 Easy English, Spanish

Overview

The hour either side of sunset is the busiest of the rainforest day and almost nobody books it. Day animals are making their last moves - sloths shifting position, toucans settling into roosts, agoutis feeding on the forest floor - while the nocturnal shift is just waking up. You walk the same reserve as the sloth tour but in falling light, which means you often get both sets of animals on one walk. Guides carry flashlights for the last stretch. It is a quieter, cooler, less crowded version of the reserve and a good choice if you have already done a daytime tour.

What travelers say about Sloth Watching Trail

Great activity with young kids
This was a fun activity for our family and we saw a bunch of animals, not only sloths. The experience is a little bit controlled in that the area is pretty small (maybe a few acres) and there are resident sloths who they know by name living there. You are pretty much guaranteed to see them. They bring little scope so you can see the sloths way up in the canopy. Our guide Josue was great, he said he only learned English 4 months ago but he was completely fluent and very patient with our group.

We saw at least 5 Sloths despite torrential rain so well worth doing as they are hard to spot without a guide

Great experience
Great tour. Saw lots of creatures: sloths, frogs, lizard, owl, birds and viper. Abel is a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Saw and learned so much more than we would have done if we didn't have a guide.

Great Guides and very cute animals
The naturalists/guides are fantastic. We saw a number of sloths, one which was about 3 meters from us. We saw many beautiful birds as well. It’s a beautiful location and the walk through the forest was with the price of admission. Note: IMHO getting a guide is critical on any of the nature hikes in Costa Rica. They are amazing at finding and identifying an incredible array of animals. Some large. Some very small. Some fast. Some very SSSLOWWWW. Without the guides you’d miss 95% off what your there to see.

Super Fun!
Great tour. Our guide did a fantastic job, pointing out sloths, frogs, and giving us info about the flora in the area. Recommended!

Lots to see here
This location is quite unassuming - but hidden back from the street is a wonderful wildlife park. Our guide led us to some memorable experiences - including great views of mom & baby sloths, plus up close views of poisionous frogs and owls. Our guide was warm with our family group of 10, and very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna we saw. This is a slow tour - lots of standing/watching/waiting.

Best sloth tour ever
This was the best tour our guide Sergio was amazing he found many sloths and made sure to help get photos and videos with the scope for really upclose shots. They used a laser light to point out exactly where to look so you would not miss the sloth.

Good guide, saw several sloths.
It looks very touristy, but the tour was good. The guide was very knowledgeable. He found several sloths, and helped take pictures of them for us. He found a poisonous frog and took a picture for us. Good tour and only took a little over an hour.
