Rincón de la Vieja is an active volcano ringed by dry tropical forest, bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, and hidden waterfalls. It's the adventure heart of northern Guanacaste — hiking, horseback riding, canyoning, and hot springs all in one park.
When to go
November through April is the classic dry-forest season. Trails can close after heavy rains in the green season.
Getting there
About 1 to 1.5 hours from Liberia Airport by road, mostly through cattle country and dry forest.
