La Fortuna Waterfall & Lunch
Five hundred steps down to a 200-foot waterfall
Overview
La Fortuna Waterfall drops 200 feet off the edge of the Cerro Chato crater into a pool the colour of green glass, and it is close enough to town that most people underestimate it. A staircase of roughly 500 steps takes you down through the canyon, with shaded landings to rest on and viewpoints on the way. At the bottom you swim where the lifeguards mark it - the pool is cold, deep and worth it. Your guide covers the geology, the canyon's plant life and the birds that nest in the rock face. Entrance fee, transport and guide are all included, so there is nothing to pay at the gate.
